Collaboration

Within its framework and its diversity of competence fields and activities, EPoSS collaborates with different industry associations and technology platforms. Goals of these collaborations are:

  • to work on common objectives and strategies,
  • to establish strategic roadmaps and R&D&I projects along the European value chains,
  • to reach mutual benefits by common events and dissemination activities.

Information on the respective nature of cooperation are provided in detail below.

Industry Associations

The three Industry Associations represent R&D&I actors, such as large companies, SME, RTOs and universities. Their members participate in the Chips JU programme and EUREKA Cluster Calls through collaborative projects.

  • AENEAS is an Industry Association promoting R&D&I in Electronic Components & Systems to strengthen European competitiveness.
  • EPoSS is an industry-driven policy initiative, defining R&D and innovation needs and requirements related to Smart Systems Integration and integrated Micro- and Nanosystems.
  • INSIDE Industry Association is the association for actors in Embedded Intelligent Systems within Europe.

The three Industry Associations each have a seat with voting rights in the JU Governing Board, allowing them to represent the interests of their members and get the best conditions for their R&D&I activities, be it in terms of topics covered by the Calls for proposals or the funding conditions of the associated grants.

Furthermore, members of the three Industry Associations jointly create common strategic documents, such as ECS Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (ECS-SRIA), which is as wide-ranging as that of the three communities on micro- and nanoelectronics, Smart Systems Integration and embedded systems of systems.

The three Industry Associations also co-organise some joint events, like ECS Brokerages and EFECS.

2Zero

The Towards zero emission road transport (2Zero) is a co-programmed Partnership funded under the Horizon Europe programme and aiming at accelerating the transition towards zero tailpipe emission road mobility across Europe.

Formally launched on 23rd June 2021, the 2Zero partnership builds upon the successes of the European Green Cars Initiative (EGCI: 2009-2013) and the European Green Vehicles Initiative (EGVI: 2014-2020).

The 2Zero partnership will implement an integrated system approach covering Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV). With the support of five Technology Platforms (ERTRAC, EPoSS, ETIP-SNET, ALICE and Batteries Europe), it will continue investigating new vehicles technologies and will extend its scope to cover the integration of the zero tailpipe emission vehicles in their eco-system contributing to boost the EU competitiveness and technological leadership.

CCAM Association

Established in 2021, the international not-for-profit organisation CCAM Association represents the private side of the CCAM Partnership, regrouping more than 180 innovation stakeholders involved in the connected, cooperative and automated mobility field.

EUROPEAN DIGITAL INNOVATION  HUBS (EDIH)

European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs) help companies dynamically respond to the digital challenges and become more competitive. By providing access to technical expertise and experimentation as well as the possibility to 'test before invest', EDIHs help companies improve business/production processes, products, or services using digital technologies. They also provide innovation services, such as financing advice, training, and skills development that are needed for a successful digital transformation. Environmental issues are also taken into account, in particular with regard to energy consumption and low carbon emissions.

HealthTech4EU ALLIANCE

HealthTech4EU Alliance, the platform health Technologies regroups seven European Technology Organisations with applications in healthcare, namely EPoSS for Smart Systems, EUMAT for Materials, ETPN for nanotechnologies, ESB for biomaterials, Photonics21, DIH-Hero for robotics and ETP Textile. Together, they represent +4000 innovative stakeholders in Europe from academia, RTOs, SMEs. The HealthTech4EU Alliance notably aims at shaping EU-funded programmes with healthcare industries and the EU Commission, eg the new european partnership “innovative health initiative” (IHI).

TCI - TransContinuum Initiative

EPoSS is a partner of TCI - TransContinuum Initiative coordinated by ETP4HPC. TCI is a horizontal collaboration between eight European associations and projects involved in IT technology, application and services provisioning for the Digital Continuum.

The TransContinuum Initiative is the unison of digital technologies which offers solutions for the operation of complex data workflow systems. In this continuum, the member organisations encompass the whole data-driven value chain starting with embedded intelligence, AI chips and sensors, HPC as the engine propelling AI, Big Data, IoT, Cybersecurity, Mobile & Wireless communication technologies and Mathematical components to work together.

Strategic Partnerships

Usually the cooperation is based on a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Other forms of collaboration do exist. For further information regarding the different forms of collaborations, please contact the EPoSS office.

AIOTI (Alliance for Internet of Things Innovation) aims to strengthen the dialogue and interaction among Internet of Things (IoT) players in Europe and to contribute to the creation of a dynamic European IoT ecosystem to speed up the take up of IoT.  AIOTI provides recommendations for future collaborations in the Internet of Things Focus Area of the 2016-2017 Horizon 2020 programme. Several partners of EPoSS are also partners in the AIOTI initiative.

The European Platform for Sport Innovation (EPSI) is a networking organization which focuses on innovation in the areas of physical activity related to sport, leisure and health. EPSI strives for a more innovation-friendly environment for the EU sports industry, in order to stimulate technological innovation and to set up businesses with a focus on innovative technology. EPSI and EPoSS cooperate most specifically in the domains of Internet of Things, Smart Cities and Wearables.

ERTRAC is the European Road Transport Research Advisory Council. It is the European technology platform which brings together road transport stakeholders to develop a common vision for road transport research in Europe.

ETIP SNET

European Technology & Innovation Platforms (ETIPs) have been created by the European Commission in the framework of the new Integrated Roadmap Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET Plan) by bringing together a multitude of stakeholders and experts from the energy sector.

ETPN

The European Technology Platform for Nanomedicine (ETPN) is a similar initiative to EPoSS, led by industry and set up together with the European Commission, specifically addressing the applications of nanotechnology to achieve breakthroughs in healthcare.

Nanomedicine exploits the improved and often novel physical, chemical and biological properties of materials at the nanometer scale. Nanomedicine has the potential to enable early detection and prevention, and to essentially improve diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of diseases.
